You have successfully completed the task of evaluating a fairy tale.

You are now faced with the task of rewriting the fairy tale you just read, making it more "gender equitable." Don't forget...girls can be heroes too. And boys can sometimes need help.

Using the Fairy Tale Analysis poster that your group made, rewrite the fairy tale in which the various character traits, such as heroism and helplessness, are seen in both genders of the characters.

To help you plan your "updated" fairy tale, use the Story Elements Worksheet.

MATERIALS:

  • Story Element worksheets
  • Analysis poster
  • pencils

Remind students that they will probably need to assign roles within the group in order to rewrite their fairy tale.

At this point of the assignment, instead of having them rewrite the fairy tale they analyzed, you may have them create and write their own fairy tale in which the character traits are equal between the two genders.
