When
answering a question using a complete sentence, the most important
thing to remember is to use words from the question. Here are a
few examples:

QUESTION:
Why did the
chicken cross the road? |

The
chicken crossed the road to get to the other side.

Here
are a couple of different ways you could answer this question.
ANSWER:
At the end of the story, Dorothy
returned to Kansas. This made me feel
very happy for her and her family.
ANSWER:
When Dorothy
returned to Kansas at
the end of the story, I felt
relieved. |

Here are a few
other important things to keep in mind when giving quality answers.
1. Reread the
question AND answer. Did you answer the question? It is often easy
to get off task and lose your focus.
2. Details!
After someone else (like your teacher) reads your answer, will they
have a complete understanding of what your thoughts are, as well
as what you read? Be sure to include specific details so your reader
is not left with another question.
3. Evidence!
Reread your answer. Did you provide specific evidence from the story
that supports your personal thoughts and feelings?
